Project Results – Feasibility Studies
Strategic Performance Group, LLC (SPG) has completed a wide variety of feasibility studies for clients. To provide some perspective about our capabilities and diversified interests, the following list describes feasibility reports that are representative of our capabilities. Feasibility studies undertaken by SPG typically take three to five weeks to complete. Our clients represent all types of businesses including entrepreneurial start-ups.
- Hotel chain under a major flag required an independent, objective, third party feasibility study before the bank would provide the necessary financing. Based on USDA feasibility study requirements including a comprehensive competitor analysis of occupancy rates and RevPAR, funding was approved and the hotel was built in a Florida city, well known for its tourism.
- Two entrepreneurs were seeking financing for a new restaurant and bar. SPG conducted a feasibility assessment including market analysis and financial projections. Financing was secured and the facility was completed. SPG staff met with the two owners at the grand opening. The restaurant and bar have proven to be so successful that plans are underway for building another one at a different location using another of SPG’s feasibility studies.
- A wedding venue and event center was under consideration by an entrepreneur. Before moving forward with the venture, the SBA required a bankable feasibility study. With SPG’s expertise in the wedding venue industry, having completed several feasibility reports in this industry, the SBA approved the loan and the wedding venue and event center was completed.
- Entrepreneur requested that SPG conduct a market feasibility study for establishing an upscale athletic club and sports performance training center. An assessment of the athletic club industry including trends over a 20 year period were included along with a competitor analysis of clubs within the desired location. In addition, over 100 interviews were conducted with prospective members to assess amenities and programs and interest level in joining an upscale athletic club. The feasibility report was used to develop a comprehensive business plan for acquiring financing for the project.
- Meat processing company was seeking a USDA feasibility study in order to obtain a grant for the expansion of its plant. SPG completed a detailed feasibility report under USDA requirement including market, economic, technical, financial and management feasibility. Based on our recommendation, the project moved forward with financing and implementation.
- An entrepreneur was seeking a feasibility study for a c-store with gas station in Tennessee. Based on the comprehensive market feasibility including market share calculations and three year financial projections indicated that there was adequate profitability to invest in the venture. Once the c-store with gas station was completed, the client provided many referrals that has resulted in SPG conducting an additional 11 feasibility studies for c-stores with gas stations within Tennessee and Georgia.
- Multi-family housing has been a popular investment for many businesses in recent years. SPG has completed several feasibility study real estate projects in this industry for locations in Iowa, Arizona, Louisiana, Texas, etc. The financial feasibility study includes occupancy rates, rental rates, total revenues and EBITDA.
- The self-storage industry has been an industry that has been well suited for entrepreneurs. With SPG’s extensive feasibility study experience in this industry, it has prepared feasibility reports for dozens of small business owners seeking validation of the property they have under consideration for self-store units and/or RV and boat storage. SPG reports include the right mix of unit sizes and rental rates based on competitor market surveys resulting in a bankable feasibility study.
- A state run liquor store enterprise in North Carolina was seeking a market feasibility study for a new liquor store location it was considering in the state. SPG feasibility study staff provided market and competitive analysis including demographics, psychographics and financial projections. Based on the feasibility assessment, a new liquor store was established. A few months later, the client requested a feasibility study for another location which SPG subsequently completed.
- Well known car wash franchisor was seeking a feasibility study for one of its prospective franchisees. With SPG’s assistance, a feasibility report was prepared resulting in approval for the franchisee’s car wash. After the car wash opened and exceeded traffic counts and revenue projections, a feasibility study was requested for another location.
- Entrepreneur was seeking to establish a RV Resort in West Virginia on land which had been purchased. A comprehensive bankable feasibility study was prepared by SPG feasibility study staff which concluded that the location was ideally suited for the RV Park resulting in the development moving forward with financing and construction.
- With the growth in brewpubs throughout the US., an Ohio partnership was seeking SBA financing for the establishment of a brewpub. A feasibility study was prepared by SPG that provided an in depth assessment of the project resulting in SBA feasibility study approval for the brewpub.
- Start-up organization developed a biopesticide used to reduce/eliminate root rot in corn. With our assistance comprehensive interviews were conducted within the seed corn industry to gauge interest level in the concept. The market feasibility study was subsequently used to obtain venture capital funding resulting in the successful commercialization of the patented product.
- An entrepreneur with two U. S. patents on a unique way of processing whole grains was seeking a market feasibility study and a business plan to acquire funds for the new business venture. With SPG’s assistance a market feasibility study was completed recommending a GO decision. A business plan was developed by SPG and used for venture financing. Subsequently, the SPG principal was elected to the Board of Directors.
- Comprehensive market feasibility study was completed for a start-up company entering the remote auto diagnostics and telematics industry. Report included strengths and weaknesses of each competitor, product features, pricing, distribution channels used, marketing strategies, sales coverage, market share, etc. The report was used by client to access venture capital markets.
- Company seeking to expand its hydroponic produce operation required a feasibility study as part of their financing options. SPG completed a complete feasibility assessment of the industry including strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats along with five year financial projections. Approval was granted for the plant expansion which has resulted in a threefold increase in sales.
- A former US military officer retiring in Hawaii was considering the development of rock climbing gym in Honolulu. With SPG’s assistance a feasibility study was prepared assessing demographics, psychographics and market demand resulting in the recommendation to move forward with the venture. A follow-up with the client noted that the climbing gym was up and running and exceeding profit projections.
- Comprehensive market feasibility study for a group of entrepreneurs seeking to start up a raw milk cheese operation. The study consisted of market potential, facility and equipment requirements, governmental regulations, investment requirements and financial projections.
- Industrial manufacturer with revenues of over $1 billion wanted an objective third party assessment of a product manufactured by one of its divisions. This included growth trends, market share analysis, key drivers, strengths and weaknesses, etc. Options under consideration by the parent company included investing over $1 million in new equipment, divesting the division or acquiring related products to complement its existing line. Market study entailed interviews with over 150 industry sources including industry experts, trade associations, competitors, distributors and users of the product. SPG recommended the capital investment of $1 million. A year later the company contacted SPG again and wanted another independent review to assess spending an additional $2 million on equipment. SPG completed its review and recommended the purchase of $2 million worth of equipment. The recommendation was implemented resulting in the highest ROI in company history.
